Don’t throw your coins!

Throwing coins into landfills is harmful for several reasons:

  1. Waste of Resources: Coins are typically made from metals such as copper, zinc, nickel, and others, which are valuable resources. By sending coins to landfills, these resources are wasted instead of being recycled and reused.
  2. Environmental Pollution: Metals in coins can leach into the soil and groundwater, contaminating the environment and potentially harming plants, animals, and humans. Additionally, the decomposition of coins releases harmful chemicals into the surrounding environment.
  3. Space Consumption: Landfills are already overflowing with waste, and every additional item, including coins, takes up space that could be used for more sustainable purposes.
  4. Missed Recycling Opportunity: Coins are highly recyclable. By throwing them away, we miss the opportunity to conserve resources and reduce the need for new mining and manufacturing, which are both environmentally damaging processes.

Overall, throwing coins into landfills contributes to resource depletion, environmental degradation, and wasted recycling opportunities.
